The Continuing Education and Performance Improvement initiative of the AAMC is directed by the Joint Working Group, comprising the leadership of the Society for Academic CME and the Group on Education Affairs CME Section.

Its Vision: lifelong learning

Its Mission: To facilitate the development of a more effective, patient and population-centered and integrated model of CME/CPD based in academic medical centers, with strong bi-directional connections to the community.

The envisioned CME model is integrated into the continuum of medical education. It is responsive to current initiatives, needs and new content areas presented by the health care system.
The model emphasizes measurable and clear objectives in these areas:

  • Outcomes: improving performance
  • Methods: understanding and using effective methods to support physician and health care team learning, change and quality
  • Content: focusing on learner needs, met by evidence-based resources and information
  • Support: integrating CME/CPD into the infrastructure of the academic medical center, emphasizing the value of CME to the AMC
  • Targets: faculty members, individual clinicians, teams and health care systems, internal and external stakeholders to the AMC; patients and community
  • Partnerships: developing collegial collaborations
